Please be warned that Hemlock, a very nasty plant, is growing on Beats 12 and 13 (on the south bank bend just before the gauging station). This plant stands at 6 foot tall and both the Environment Agency and the Wild Trout Trust have confirmed the plant as Hemlock from photographs taken by our Chairman, Trevor Walker.
The stem of the plant has purplish brown blotches and this is the best way of identifying it.
The sap is particularly toxic if it comes into contact with the skin so do not attempt to cut it down! The farmer is investigating ways of eradicating the plants but in the meantime please be aware, alert and careful.
